Finger Amputation Leads to $78K in Fines for WI Plastic Bag Co.

Waukesha, WI – An OSHA investigation of KG Marketing & Bag Co. Inc revealed that the plastic bag manufacturer had disabled safety guards on 2 pieces of machinery, leading to amputationamputation plastic bag.

OSHA inspected the WI facility in May of 2016 after receiving a report that a worker had suffered partial amputation of his right index finger. The worker lost part of a finger while clearing a jam on a machine that seals plastic bags. Inspectors found that the safety guards on that bag sealing machine were disabled, and a similar machine was not properly guarded. The fines for failure to maintain proper safety guards total $78,325 for KG Marketing & Bag Co.
