2-Day Fall Protection Competent Person Train the Trainer

This course will prepare learners how to teach others how to become Fall Protection Competent Persons. It covers OSHA requirements, how these apply for various workplaces or job assignments, elements of a Fall Protection Program, responsibilities of equipment users, Competent and Qualified persons and the actions that a manager needs to take to assure worker safety. These include fall risk assessment, facility inspection, barrier positioning and design, methods of assuring safe work when physical barriers are not practical, selection and inspection of personal fall arrest systems, types of anchor points, provision of worker training and assessment of program compliance with OSHA and company-specific requirements.

Training Objectives

After completing this lesson, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how OSHA requirements apply to their workplace operations
  • Conduct an effective inspection of heightened risk areas for compliance
  • Recommend solutions to remedy any deficiencies identified
  • Evaluate conditions and worker activities for compliance and risk reduction
  • Develop a communications plan to educate workers about risk areas
  • Select appropriate fall prevention and personal fall arrest systems
  • Understand how to identify approved anchor (tie-off) points
  • Determine what type of fall protection is used for scissor lifts and elevating platforms
  • Establish a program of periodic internal and external equipment inspection
  • Be capable of training workers in how to don, adjust and doff fall protection gear
  • Competently perform inspection of fall protection equipment
  • Prepare for response to a fall incident and develop a plan for rescue
  • Educate newly hired workers on company policies on fall protection
  • Evaluate compliance with company policies and OSHA regulations
  • Understand the behaviors that cause falls from ladders
  • Know the types of ladders and how they should be used
  • Establish inspection protocols for ladders used in the workplace
